Princess [r]: The wife of a prince or the daughter of the king and queen in a monarchy. But unlike a prince, a princess is not assumed to be the future queen (as a prince is assumed to be in line for the royal throne), but it remains a possibility, particularly if she's married to a prince and he becomes the king. The term derives from the Latin princeps meaning first citizen used by Augustus Caesar, the Roman dictator.
