Amazon (mythology) [r]: From Greek mythology, they were a nation or race of female warriors who figure prominently in the Iliad by the Greek bard Homer. They may have lived in a region along the Black Sea in lands known as Scythia or the Ukraine, while other sources place them in Asia Minor or Libya.
