N,N'-diisopropylcarbodiimide is a dehydration reagent that is used to activate carboxylic acids for coupling with either alcohols or amines to form ester or amide products. It is similar to N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, another carbodiimide, in reactivity, but, as a liquid reagent, it is easier to handle and extract from reaction mixtures.
