A Christian church service taking place during Advent. It includes reading from the bible, sometimes with explanation, (the "lessons") and Christmas Carol (the "carols"). The number of lessons varies, seven to nine is usual. The carols sung may vary, but Adeste Fideles (“O Come, All ye Faithful”), Stille Nacht (“Silent Night”), Hark the Herald Angels Sing and in Commonwealth countries Once in Royal David's City can be counted on. Sometimes a homily is given.
