A creed, from the Latin "credo" ("I believe"), is a declaration of fundamental beliefs, often applied to matters of faith or religion, and expressed as a prayer. The creeds of the Christian churches are long standing statements of central dogma held by various Christian religious denominations. The texts of two such creeds are set out below:

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
