Francis Hutcheson (August 8, 1694 – August 8, 1746) was born in Northern Ireland to a family of Scottish Presbyterians. In adulthood, Hutcheson became a philosopher and one of the founding fathers of the Scottish Enlightenment, and was a major influence on Adam Smith, David Hume and others.
