Sentence Component Order

The three basic components of a sentence, the subject, object, and verb, can appear in one of six orders: SVO, SOV, VSO, OVS, OSV, and VOS. The latter three orders are so rare that, as recently as 1977, respected linguists[1] could say that no languages existed which employed them.
