Hi Alex, the lie groups list seems decent. The geometry list seems like a mishmush of redundent, good, dictionary, and I don't know what else.--dlehavi 11:04, 5 March 2007 (CST)

Big O notation
Alex, I see your request to move Big O notation to Big O notation(computer science).  Are we looking to make another as well, Big O notation(mathematics)? Do we have a plan for disambiguation for Big O notation or just redirect to Big O notation(computer science). --Matt Innis [[User talk:D. Now, I propose
* moving "Big O notation" to "Complexity of algorithms" (would appreciate comments from computer workgroup members). Just look at "see also" section at the bottom the article - "complexity theory" is where it really belongs in.
* deleting the resulting redirect "Big O notation". This will be something different.

Okay, if I move this to Complexity of algorithms, would you be the one to clean it up, or do we need to get a computer science member involved now? --Matt Innis (Talk) 17:05, 25 March 2007 (CDT)

As you are a math author, would you consider discussing one of these two guys to see if they have a problem with your idea.  If they don't respond, I will go with your suggestion for Big O. Then I will ask User:Robert Tito as a computer science editor to join us in the discussion for the Complexity of algorithms. Sound good? --Matt Innis [[User talk:D. AlekStos, I performed the move to Complexity of algorithms and deleted the redirect from Big O notation though I suppose you could have done that.  Do please, add some content befoer someone nominates it for deletion in any cleanup function!  Thanks for you patience in making sure everyone was on the same page. --Matt Innis (Talk) 12:41, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

The big O notation (and its relatives, such as the little o notation) is quite common in analysis and other parts of mathematics having nothing to do with analysis of algorithms. I believe it was introduced by Donald Knuth as an aide to the analysis of algorithms, but its use has spread well beyond that. Greg Woodhouse 23:02, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

Sorry I didn't respond for so long, Alek ... I agree that an article titled "Big O notation" is a bit weird - it'd be like having an article titled "The f(x) notation". Big O is a way to express certain ideas (in complexity theory, analysis, physics, and so on), and so it can be discussed where those ideas are discussed. - Greg Martin 17:57, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

WP credit
The articles Tycho Brahe and Joan of Arc were listed by yourself as needing the WP credit. The Tycho article already had a WP credit. Recently, I removed the last remaining WP material from the Joan of Arc article so it should not require such credit.

There is a WP credit on Timeline of Joan of Arc which should be removed as all content here on CZ was written by myself. I tried to remove the WP credit by unchecking the WP box, but that didn't work.

James F. Perry 13:02, 28 March 2007 (CDT)

:Thanks for the list of "similitudes" in the JoA article. I will deal appropriately with them. Especially the Kelly DeVries sentence does not belong in any encyclopedia article. Now if I can just find it! And thanks for the tip on how to remove the WP credit.

:The WP credit on Tycho Brahe was entered in a non-standard way because the WP template did not exist at the time. That would be really hard for a program to pick up. James F. Perry 13:52, 28 March 2007 (CDT)

I just dealt with the one paragrpah which contained 4 of the 5 WP leftover remnants. Near as I can figure, I had slated that passage for elimination, probably previewed it, but forgot to save the changes. There is now only the one sentence about Joan's parents to be revised.

The comparison script is fantastic! James F. Perry 11:04, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

:The Timeline of Joan of Arc article was written by myself, originally posted to WP. Since my original posting, only a couple of changes (not all of which were merited) were made. They were then removed before bringing the article over here to CZ. So the CZ article was written by myself. I will leave a note on the Talk page of the article explaining that. This type of situation may be another problem for your script. Also in this category are Kilt, Kilt accessories, Amber Neben, Mari Holden, and others to follow. James F. Perry 13:23, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

Aleksander - the matieral on the Proctor compaction test article is entirely my own work; see the WP article history. After essentially completely rewriting the article for WP, I decided to contribute it here. Also, you mentioned "8 sentences" on the Irish dance article; I believe I wrote those, too, but failed to provide the diff. Can you tell me which are the 8 sentences? Anthony Argyriou 15:09, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

:I don't mind at all that you've done what you did - it's not obvious what I did, and I failed to provide sufficient information, particularly in the Proctor compaction test article for anyone else to figure it out. Your answer to the eight sentences question will give me a lead on either finding the diffs to show it's my own work, or to remove/rewrite those sentences which are not mine. I know this is annoying, but for those of us who have forgotten, could you provide a glossary of symbols at a bottom section? I've forgotten what a lot of the symbols, including the Greek letters are, and so I can't read much of this, and I want to. I don't mean a whole explanations just a simple:
Greek letter=theta
Math symbol=union
kind of thing.

Aleksander - I've created a new template for people claiming author credit for Wikipedia articles, at the title link. The primary change is to allow people to specify the wikipedia article name. == WP Credit ==

I notice you have been adding "WP Credit" to articles that I have posted here and also on WP. When I posted them here several months ago, there was a discussion about whether WP credit should be given. The conclusion was that it NEED NOT be given, since I was very much the primary author (and sometimes the only one) of the WP article. The talk page of each of these articles includes a discussion of this situation. For articles where these conditions didn't apply, I tried to always give WP credit. I don't much care whether or not WP is named as the first place this material appeared, but I DO care about consistency, sticking to decisions once made, etc., especially when I jumped through so many discussion page hoops to describe what was going on. Louis F. Sander 14:32, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
:Louis, without having checked which articles Aleksander is adding WP credit to, I do know that in his discussions with me, he's emphasised that if more than about one sentence of a WP article that isn't by the CZ author is re-used here, then the WP credit requirement applies. I've moved a number of articles of mine over, and have had to do some creative editing to remove the parts contributed by others, when I cared to have the WP credit removed from the article. Anthony Argyriou 15:53, 31 July 2007 (CDT)

Article of the month
Hi Aleks!

Are you the fellow coordinating this?  If so, I'd ask you to move dog to the end of the list to give me time to work on the draft page.

I've already done some editing and expansion, but in light of the AoM thing, I'd like to move this up in my priorities (not sure where I'll get the time from, but that's my problem.)

Although nicely written, the present article has some inaccuracies I wouldn't like to see on the front page as an example of CZ's best, plus IMO it does a better job of discussing the relationship between people and dogs than simply the mammal, dog.

If the-guy-to-talk-to isn't you, please tell me who it is?

Thanks

Thank you for looking through the LaTeX article I started. I hope you will be able to contribute more as a mathematics man - I only know it as a text preparation tool, not from a math standpoint. Hi Aleksander. I'm trying to find out why \begin{align} still doesn't work. I left a message on User talk:Jason Potkanski, but since the last message on that page is a few months in the past, I'm wondering whether he's still the right person to contact, as unfortunately a number of high-profile people (Nancy Sculerati, Russell Potter) has left us. What is the best point of contact?

By the way, I haven't forgotten about your essentials / advanced subpage and will comment on it. I just wanted to do a bit of writing first before talking about policies.
