CZ Talk:Cold Storage/Energy conversion
Retitled and moved the article
Article initiated by Gordon Feric retitled and moved.--Thomas Simmons 03:42, 25 January 2008 (CST)
- Where should this reside? The main article is "Energy conversion" and the talk is at "Energy Conversion". --Todd Coles 22:11, 3 February 2008 (CST)
- Both should, and now do, reside at "Energy conversion", with "conversion" uncapitalized. The title should be uncapitalized because it's not a proper name. Anthony Argyriou 12:13, 4 February 2008 (CST)
- Thanks Anthony. Forgot to alter the talk page when changing the title.--Thomas Simmons 17:41, 4 February 2008 (CST)
Made some revisions to improve appearance
Gordan, I just made some revisions of the first two or so paragraphs of the section on the Carnot cycle to show you how the article's appearance can be much improved and the length of the article can be shortened:
- I re-drew your first two drawings. Made them smaller, eliminated the excess white space and made the text in the drawings larger (to be more legible).
- Then I located the drawings on the right-hand side of the page so that the text could flow down the left-hand side. Doing this for all of the drawings in the article will drastically shorten the length of the article ... but all of the drawings will need to be redrawn to make all of them smaller and they will all need larger text in the drawings.
- I also made a very few minor wording changes to be more encyclopedic in nature.
If you will take the time to study my edits on the edit page, you will learn how to locate drawings on the right-hand side and how to caption the drawings within the image location syntax.
Tomorrow I will try converting some of your HTML equations to TeX.
Hope this helps get you started improving this article so that it will be much more useful. I know this will take time and work, but the final product will be much better. - Milton Beychok 02:23, 5 April 2008 (CDT)
- Now, I have finished a preliminary revision of the Carnot cycle section down the sentence that begins with Figure 3 presents the Carnot cycle efficiency .... That gives you a good example of how to improve the entire article.
- I suggest that you take one section at a time, paste a copy of it into your sandbox, make improvements such as the ones that I have, and then go back to the article and replace the existing section with your improved section from the sand box.
- That's about all I can do for you. Now it is up to you from here on out. I may revise one or two more of your drawings, but beyond that you will have to revise the rest of them. Regards, - Milton Beychok 15:11, 5 April 2008 (CDT)
- I just went ahead and finished the preliminary revision of the entire Carnot cycle section. - Milton Beychok 20:40, 5 April 2008 (CDT)
Energy Conversion Analysis
Is there a reason you created and then blanked this article? If there is no need for it anymore, let me know and I will tag it with the speedydelete template. Thanks. -- Todd Coles 12:38, 20 April 2008 (CDT)
- Todd: At this point, I would not like to discuss the specifics of the current status of the article. However, you observation is correct. As far as I am concerned, please do what you have to do with the page. If you are getting ready to delete the page, I would suggest to first check with Milton Beychok since he is the last person who contributed to the page. Thanks, Gordan Feric
- Todd: I have no intention of working on Energy Conversion Analysis. The page and/or article is of no use to anyone at Citizendium. Therefore, when you get a chance, would you please drop the page! Thanks, Gordan Feric
- Gordan, what is bugging you? I restored the page.--Paul Wormer 03:23, 4 June 2008 (CDT)
Perhaps more context would help?
First, a disclaimer: my fields are primarily telecommunications, medical, software and network engineering, so you are immediately giving me far more thermodynamics than I remember. Nevertheless, my initial thought is that I would find it helpful to have something of a higher-level article under which this fits. For want of a better term, I’ll call it “Energy Management”, but please feel free to change it.
Under that would be such sub-articles/pages as:
- Energy generation
- Energy conversion
- Energy storage
- Energy distribution
Yours would go under conversion, as a sub-article for Carnot cycles. Other articles might include conversion of mechanical to electrical (e.g., flywheel and generator), electrical to mechanical, solar to electrical, etc.
Does this make any sense? Having a more general article one level up would let you define common terms and show how different kinds of energy conversion are part of a larger whole. I found it somewhat confusing to have what seemed a general title take me directly into Carnot cycles.
