At approximately 1:40am, March 26, 2024, the freighter Dali allided with the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.<br />
Multiple spans of the truss bridge collapsed into the Patapsco River. <br />
<br />
The crew of the Dali sent out a "Mayday", reporting engine failure, and anticipating an allision, and bridge authorities set in motion steps to prevent vehicles using the bridge, a step believed to have saved lives. However, workers were conducting maintenance on the bridge, and are now missing. Two survivors were rescued shortly after the collapse, with one sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.<br />
<br />
The 8636 ft long bridge was completed in 1977, and was crossed by 11.5 million vehicles per year. When built, the bridges's central span was the third longest truss bridge span in the world. The water depth under the bridge is 50 ft.<br />
<br />
The Dali is a container ship, based in Singapore, built in 2015.<br />
She is reported to have allided with the bridge due to engine failure. The Dali previously allided with a bridge, in Antwerp, in 2016.<br />

The Insula dell'Ara Coeli is a rare surviving example of an insula, the kind of apartment blocks where many Roman city dwellers resided. It was built during the 2nd century AD, and rediscovered, under an old church, when Benito Mussolini initiated a plan for massive urban renewal of Rome's historic Capitoline Hill neighbourhood.<br />
<br />
Four floors remain. The ground floor consisted of shops that faced the surrounding streets, with the owners using ladders to access living quarters immediately above. A mezzanine lay above the shop level. The two remaining floors seem to have been designed for human residence. The third floor seemed to be large, spacious apartments. The fourth floor had a corridor with a series of three room suites leading off of it. Archeologist Andrew Wallace-Hadrill suggested that with a little imagination, these suites comparable to the apartments many families lived in in 21st Century Rome. Archeologists believe the structure was originally built with at least five stories.<br />

There has been considerable disagreement over their function, and Amanda Claridge, for instance, inclines to an identification as slave quarters. This seems to me to underestimate considerably the size and potential of these units. The end room is lit by two windows -- externally the windows form groups of three of which the third lights the corridor itself. This is surely the main living room, while the rooms behind serve as bedrooms and utility rooms. In present dank and dingy conditions it takes a leap of imagination, but with painted plaster on the walls, and in all likelihood simply white mosaic flooring, such an apartment would rank with the forty-square meter apartments in which many families now live in Rome.<br />

}} <br />
Caroline Kepnes is an American writer. Kepnes is a screenwriter, the author of several novels, and a biography of 19th century novelist Stephen Crane, and, formerly, an entertainment reporter. Her dark 2015 novel You was made into a television series of the same name, broadcast on the Lifetime channel, starting in September 2018. Viewership was low enough that Lifetime declined to finance a second season. But co-producer Netflix added the series to its line-up in December, where it became popular, so Netflix agreed to finance a second season.<br />
<br />
In an interview with the Boston Globe Kepnes said her first paid writing gig was an article on boy bands, for Tiger Beat magazine. In addition to her work as a writer, she performed as a background character in the television series The $treet.<br />
<br />
Kepnes explained the darkness of You, which deconstructs the romantic-comedy model, by making the interested male a violent stalker, saying it was written in a dark period of her life, the year her father died of cancer, and in which she experienced several other personal challenges.<br />
<br />
In 2016 Kepnes published a sequel to You, Hidden Bodies.<br />
<br />
Her third novel, Providence: A Novel, published in 2018, has been described as romance-suspense-thriller, with supernatural aspects. Alison Flood, in a review published by The Guardian, wrote "Providence is compelling, and Kepnes provides a sometimes piercing insight into the small, strange, sad details that make up a life, though without quite achieving the deep, dark pleasures of You." According to Cheryl Wassenaar, in a review in Cultures magazine, the novel is "a bit like Dexter meets, well, H.P Lovecraft."<br />

<br />
In an interview with the Boston Globe Kepnes said her first paid writing gig was an article on boy bands, for Tiger Beat magazine. In addition to her work as a writer, she performed as a background character in the television series The $treet.<br />
<br />
Kepnes explained the darkness of You, which deconstructs the romantic-comedy model, by making the interested male a violent stalker, saying it was written in a dark period of her life, the year her father died of cancer, and in which she experienced several other personal challenges.<br />
<br />
In 2016 Kepnes published a sequel to You, Hidden Bodies.<br />
<br />

<br />
Brant spent thirty years working in law enforcement, 28 of them at the NCIS, the last 8 years as its director.<br />
<br />
Senator John Warner, who was himself a former Secretary of the Navy, read a tribute to Brant into the Senate record, when Brant retired.<br />
<br />
==The NCIS and the use of "extended interrogation" techniques at Guantanamo==<br />
<br />
A twenty page statement by Alberto Mora issued on July 7, 2004 describes a series of high-level meetings among the United States Navy's most senior lawyers, that were triggered by reports, from Brant,<br />
that the captives being held in the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base were being subjected to questionable interrogation techniques.<br />
<br />
Alberto Mora's statement contained several quotations from Brant, about Brant's reluctance for the NCIS to be involved with the questionable interrogation techniques:<br />
<br />
: "Director Brant emphasized that NCIS would not engage in abusive treatment even if ordered to and and did not wish to be be even indirectly associated with a facility that engaged in such practices."<br />
}<br />
<br />
In 2011 Brant provided a video testimonial in which he voiced his respect for Mora, his immediate superior, for the principled stand he took as soon as Brant told him about the abuse of the individuals being held in Guantanamo. Brant said Mora didn't seem to even hesistate over whether he should a principled stand to his own superiors. Brant explicitly said he realized that Mora was putting his job on the line with his stand.<br />
<br />
==Post law-enforcement career==<br />
<br />
After he left NCIS Brant worked as a security expert for the accounting firms Deloitte Consulting and BDO. While at those firms he was a dedicated fund-raiser for the National Law Officers Memorial Fund. <br />
<br />
He would eventually leave consulting for accountants to become the executive director of the National Law Enforcement Museum.<br />

David Brant joined NCIS in 1997, and served as its director from 1997 to 2005.<br />
<br />
Brant spent thirty years working in law enforcement, 28 of them at the NCIS, the last 8 years as its director.<br />
<br />
Senator John Warner, who was himself a former Secretary of the Navy, read a tribute to Brant into the Senate record, when Brant retired.<br />
<br />
==The NCIS and the use of "extended interrogation" techniques at Guantanamo==<br />
<br />
<br />
Alberto Mora's statement contained several quotations from Brant, about Brant's reluctance for the NCIS to be involved with the questionable interrogation techniques:<br />
<br />
: "Director Brant emphasized that NCIS would not engage in abusive treatment even if ordered to and and did not wish to be be even indirectly associated with a facility that engaged in such practices."<br />
}<br />
<br />
<br />
==Post law-enforcement career==<br />
<br />
After he left NCIS Brant worked as a security expert for the accounting firms Deloitte Consulting and BDO. While at those firms he was a dedicated fund-raiser for the National Law Officers Memorial Fund. <br />
<br />
He would eventually leave consulting for accountants to become the executive director of the National Law Enforcement Museum.<br />

Aimee Bessada is a Canadian singer-songwriter and alumnus of the prestigious Canadian Film Centre's Slaight Music Residency.<br />
Bessada had worked as a touring musician for approximately a decade prior to attending the prestigious nine month program at the CFC's Slaight Family Music Lab, where she and four other selectees worked under the mentorship of award-winning film composer Marc Jordan. The goal of the program was to take composers and songwriters who had already had a proven track record, and train them in the specialized skills for composing music for film and television.<br />
<br />
Following her completion of the program Bessada prepared the music for multiple film and television projects, including <br />
How To Buy A Baby,<br />
Irreplaceable You,<br />
Nappily Ever After,<br />
The Inherent Traits of Connor James,<br />
Holly Hobbie.<br />
<br />
Vents magazine described her musical style as an "unique blend of grunge, folk, and surf rock."<br />
<br />
Her 2015 debut extended play compact disk followed her participation in the Make or Break television show on VH1, hosted by Linda Perry. On the show Perry mentored a group of musicians. Bessada was one of the participants selected to make an EP. Hers was entitled A dream, a coast.<br />
<br />
In 2018 Bessada was one of the guest artists who performed in a series of tributes to the work of Joni Mitchell and Carole King. In an interview with CBC Newss Reshmi Nair artistic and managing director Mitchell Marcus, and Bessada explained how, for its twelfth annual iteration of its "Uncovered" series the Musical Stage Company chose to profile the work of the only two female singer-songwriters to make Rolling Stone magazine the top ten of its list of iconic singer-songwriters.<br />

quote = Bessada leads two performances within the show and dumps classic rockstar energy into both. Her Act I "Don't Bring Me Down" is backed by the full band, with Bessada opting to take lead guitar. She knows how to work a stage while delivering a demanding piece, which is proven again during her later take on "Woodstock," although she swaps her guitar for a mandolin to add an extra layer to the cover.<br />
