You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. Yep, it seems you have a pretty good handle on it. As you become more comfortable with it, try to make sure you fill out as much of the checklist (metadata) as you can. The most important ones being status and workgroup categories. Check out CZ:The Article Checklist for more info on this.
