Welcome, Luke! --Larry Sanger 02:31, 1 November 2006 (CST)

Luke, note Dog isn't an external article (status = 2 not 4). Just because something started life in WP, that doesn't necessarily make it external. You also have to look at the page history to see whether the required number of changes have been made. --Larry Sanger 09:36, 21 March 2007 (CDT)

Sorry, my bad. Excuse - it was way late, my time. I forgot the 'Content is from Wikipedia' flag, which is separate from the checklist, solves the problem...but I did make a note on the CZ:The Big Cleanup page that it 'seems to have been developed a lot from the original Wikipedia version, so "External article: from another source, with little change" didn't seem right.' And I can now see that I didn't catch your reply because the talk section on that page was moved soon after. Apologies, and to Nancy Sculerati, Fred and the other editors too.--luke 23:55, 21 March 2007 (CDT) // p.s. I see you guys are now 5 hours behind 'proper time' :)

Documentation of permission

Hi Luke. Thanks for your work here on CZ. We need you to document permission for Image:DSC_0021_large.jpg. For how to do that, see Help:Images#Documenting free content releases and images by permission. If you need additional help, just ask. Kindly do this as soon as possible after reading this message. Thanks! Stephen Ewen 23:42, 1 May 2007 (CDT)

Hi, To let you know in case there are tech. probs. etc, just mailed you on this. (07.10 BST) Take care.--luke 01:18, 2 May 2007 (CDT)
Got it. I hope in the near future to prod things such that we have tickboxes, drop downs, and text forms all on one simple page to make all this sort of thing obvious and as painless as possible. Stephen Ewen 04:16, 2 May 2007 (CDT)

Fair use

The current policy is at CZ:Images#.22Fair_use.22. A proposal is at Archive:Fair Use Policy, Media, Media. Which image(s) are you wanting to use under fair use? Can you post the links here? We'll probably figure out a way to use them. Also, you need to make your full name appear in your signature. Don't worry, all pages it would show up in are blocked from the search engine spiders, see http://en.citizendium.org/robots.txt  —Stephen Ewen (Talk) 02:14, 16 September 2007 (CDT)

Thanks Stephen. I just had a look. The images are B&W screengrabs of David Attenborough in his early appearances on TV. They are no doubt BBC copyright but if I were to ask the BBC there would probably be difficulties and it might take ages to get a reply from their legal eagles (they have a notoriously efficient legal department). Also I'm aware that it's best not to tread on people's toes (but within reason) where local law might be different to US law if we can avoid it. To explain what I mean here: The BBC seems to be happy to allow some of its best content to reside on Youtube without complaint. Thanks -- Luke Brandt 02:46, 16 September 2007 (CDT)
Well, we'll not take their apparent inaction toward YouTube as law here. But are these self-made, or ones hosted by the BBC or somewhere else? BTW, thanks for correcting the name.  —Stephen Ewen (Talk) 02:52, 16 September 2007 (CDT)
They're self-made screengrabs from an hour-long interview/feature with David, recently repeated on BBCFour late at night. -- Luke Brandt 03:04, 16 September 2007 (CDT)
Okay. Whether by permission or fair use, I think the best first step would be to bring that article into an approval-worthy state.  —Stephen Ewen (Talk) 03:51, 16 September 2007 (CDT)
