Welcome Page

Welcome, new editor! We're very glad you've joined us. Please read The Editor Role. You can look at Getting Started for other helpful introductory pages. It is essential for you as an editor to join the Citizendium-Editors (broadcast) mailing list in order to stay abreast of editor-related issues, as well as the mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. It is also important, for project-wide matters, to join the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and thank you! We appreciate your willingness to share your expertise, and we hope to see your edits on Recent changes soon. David E. Translation

Jean-Philippe, I saw your question on Larry's talk page. If you go to CZ:International, you will find a list of people who claim working knowledge of French (and other languages); some of them may be willing to translate articles for you if you contact them directly. (I am not one of them - I know some Spanish, but almost no French.) Anthony Argyriou 23:43, 10 March 2008 (CDT)

Anthony, thank you for this very helpfull information. It's exactly what I need. Now I can begin to work. Jean-Philippe de Lespinay 01:02, 11 March 2008 (CDT)
Je regrette que bien que je parle francais assez courrament, le traduction, surtout des choses techniques est audessus mes moyens. Desole.... All the best! Hayford Peirce 19:55, 18 March 2008 (CDT)

Salut Jean-Philippe!

It's been a while since I gave translation a try, I mostly do technical documentation in English these days. I've also been playing with Dr. Wallace's AIML bots too. Can you point to to a URL of your articles, or email them to me william@2038.org so I can see if the French bits of my brain wake up? :-)

William, I have no news from you. I'm waiting for your opinion about my two articles. Jean-Philippe de Lespinay 11:25, 14 April 2008 (CDT)

Removal notice

Your two articles have been moved to your user space following a decision of the EC (see Case 2011-007. --Peter Schmitt 01:50, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Response

Dear Jean - I've just seen your message to me.

The rules that govern the content on Citizendium are determined by the Editorial Council, which as you know is elected. They act within the Charter, and by Article 23 'The Citizendium shall remain free of advocacy, advertisement and sensationalism' and broadly this includes self-promotion and promotion of member's personal achievements and contributions. From the inception of Citizendium, it was recognised that there could be problems if Citizendium became a platform for academics to promote their own theories and reputations, and so it became established as a convention that members could not cite their own work within articles. However, other members of the project may insert such citations, and the accepted way to facilitate this would be to place a comment on the Talk page of an article, stating and explaining your suggestion for inclusion in the article, explaining that because of a "conflict of interest" you are unable to add that material directly yourself, and hope that another member of Citizendium will take the time to help you.Gareth Leng 09:50, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
