Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, our help system and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via Twitter. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any administrator for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun!

Thanks for the welcome¸ Matt! In fact I have just completed my first contribution to Citizendium and really enjoyed writing it

(see http://locke.citizendium.org:8080/wiki/Gilad_Atzmon )

I am wondering if I have filled out the CV live tags template properly here

http://locke.citizendium.org:8080/wiki/Talk:Gilad_Atzmon

and would also like to find out how to submit the article to the approval process¸ as I believe it is more or less close to completion. Your help will be appreciated. Edna Spennato 08:27, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

Image upload

Hi Edna. Thanks for your work here on Citizendium, which I suspect will be very interesting given your profession. Just a note about http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Image:Gilad.jpg which you recently uploaded. What do you mean by "Copyright free"? Who took the photo? Do you have documentation of having received permission that you can post as a subpage to the image? All of this information must be very clear as regards images. Please advise so we can work things out. - Stephen Ewen 01:35, 28 March 2007 (CDT)

Hi Stephen! Thanks for your note. The photographer for that pic is Robert Burns. However, I would like to remove that photograph and have just uploaded a better photograph which was taken by the photographer, Eamonn Mccabe, and is the property of Gilad Atzmon (i.e. he bought the copyright from the photographer). I have been compiling some info about Atzmon into an encyclopedic piece for Citizendium. So I contacted him about the copyright and received his response this morning, which confirms Atzmon is the copyright owner and gives permission to use it. If you would like him to send an e-mail directly to you confirming that, please e-mail him at at the e-mail address I sent to you privately. Thanks Steven. Edna Spennato

Hi Edna, thanks for your note. Given what you said, what you need to do to upload the picture and any such like it for use in articles is follow the directions here http://en.citizendium.org/wiki?title=User_talk:Gary_Giamboi&diff=prev&oldid=100061183 while tailoring them for an image rather than text. Once you create the permissions page let me know so I can lock it. Also, you need to note in the article's image text box the copyright and permissions status. Best, Stephen Ewen 17:54, 28 March 2007 (CDT)

Hi Stephen

I’m not too sue how to create a permission page for the pic. Also¸ what is meant by “A document image bearing the person's signature who is able to release the copyright would be best.” What qualifies as his signature? Would his e-mail be enough? Does he have to write it and sign it by hand¸ then scan it in? Looking forward to hearing back¸ and sorry for all the questions.

Thanks Edna SpennatoEdna

I have done what needed to be done except upload the proof, which I obviously do not have. See my additions to the image box at Gilad_Atzmon, and at the image's upload page. I also wrote directions for in the future: See Help:Images#Using_copyrighted_images_by_permission. Best, Stephen Ewen 00:12, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

Thanks so much for your help Steven. I have done it and I hope it's all in order. Just one question regarding Wiki content. If you have a look at the wikipedia article on Gilad Atzmon at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilad_Atzmon , you will see that it is very limited in terms of information about his music, writing etc. There are one or two sentences at the beginning of the Citizendium article on him which are similar, but not exactly the same as the Wiki introduction - apart from those first couple of sentences, the information is totally different and original in the Citizendium article. Could you let me know if the similarities in the first couple of sentences warrent ticking the wiki box or not. I wasn't sure about this so I haven't done it.

Edna Spennato

My pleasure. Please re-visit the pages to see ideal formatting and content articulation. View the edit tab to see how it was done. Pass it along! BTW, the onus is on the uploader to prove permission, and not on constables, so I removed that info. Historical note: this is the first image uploaded to CZ that is copyrighted by permission and is responsible for forcing us to quickly hash out a policy therefor. As for the Intro, I'd encourage you to craft a compelling introductory narrative, not in Wikipedia style. For example, compare CZ's biology or anthropology Intros with WPs. That is the style we are aiming for. See CZ:We aren't Wikipedia, point #10. `:-) Best, Stephen Ewen 03:59, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

Steven thanks for the good advice. I had not realised the full extent of the difference between the stodgy old Wikipedia and the dynamic new Citizendium, and I must admit I compiled the info in as an “encyclopaedic” a style as I was able. In fact, it is very nice to be able to write a slightly more interesting and readable introduction to this article, and I am going to put my thinking cap on and do that in the next day or two.

I would like to find out how an article become approved…does the writer have to apply for the approval process to begin¸ or is it something that happens in time with all articles posted at Citizendium?

One more question, do you have any idea when the slow coach Google will catch on and start featuring Citizendium articles when subjects are searched? I see it’s still just Wiki, which comes up at the top, and nothing at all about Citizendium. Edna Spennato 16:24, 30 March 2007 (CDT)

Steven - I have followed your advice...and changed the intro. There was a very relevant angle which just begged to be used in the intro, and it "wrote itself", as they say. Hope it is not too over the top for an online encyclopedia. Tell me what you think. It might need toning down. BTW there is not even one tiny bit from Wikipedia in here (I am pleased to say!) Edna Spennato 12:28, 31 March 2007 (CDT)

Yea, that goes too far. See CZ:Neutrality_Policy. You'll get it just right. ;-) Stephen Ewen 02:40, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

I've changed the intro again Steven! I think it is much more neutral now... Edna Spennato 07:59, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

Gilad

Edna, I've nominated this article for approval, as requested. It looks good. --Tom Gersic 10:50, 3 April 2007 (CDT)

Thanks so much Tom...unfortunately some editors feel it is not neutral enough and needs to be re-written again. I would appreciate your input as we go along! Edna Spennato 06:09, 7 April 2007 (CDT)

Hello Edna, see my response onTalk:Gilad Atzmon --Matt Innis (Talk) 09:52, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

tags

Edna, these tags go on the bottom of your user page;) --Matt Innis (Talk) 13:07, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

Ah - now I get it...on the USER page and not the article page. Done! Thanks! Edna Spennato 13:20, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

There you go! --Matt Innis (Talk) 13:23, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

Edna, are you in touch with any of Gilad's PR people? See the talk page. --Matt Innis (Talk) 15:41, 3 April 2007 (CDT)

Topic informant

CZ:Policy_on_Topic_Informants—–is there something about this you need help with? Stephen Ewen 12:04, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

Edna, looks like Stephen is sending you in the right direction. Let me know if you have any questions. --Matt Innis (Talk) 14:49, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

Hi Steven and Matt. It’s not clear from that page re topic informant exactly HOW to get Gilad Atzmon registered as topic informant simply and without undue fuss! Could someone please let me know the process for this? He is a very busy person and I doubt he has time to submit interviews etc.¸ but it is in the interests of the article to get him on board¸ I would say¸ as soon as possible. I have his e-mail address and he has indicated his willingness to be TI. What next? Thanks for your help.Edna Spennato 01:20, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

Hi Edna, sorry it takes me so long to get back to you. I seem to get sidetracked a lot;) I found this sentence in the link that Steven gave us above:
  • A person may request an interview, or to submit remarks, by sending an e-mail to that effect to czinternal-topic@citizendium.org. The Topic Informant Workgroup then decides, in a private deliberation, whether to grant the interview or to accept the remarks.
Lets start there. --Matt Innis (Talk) 19:52, 18 April 2007 (CDT)

I've proposed starting a Topic Informant (TI:) namespace for correspondence. In the meantime, can a constable please (1) move correspondence to a subpage of Talk:Gilad Atzmon, and (2) protect that subpage? --Larry Sanger 14:20, 19 April 2007 (CDT)

Then, can you please link to that subpage from here?--CZ:Topic Informant Workgroup. --Larry Sanger 14:22, 19 April 2007 (CDT)

Larry, I have created the subpage Talk:Gilad Atzmon/Topic informant, protected it, and linked it to CZ:Topic Informant Workgroup. I have not placed any information into the space. --Matt Innis (Talk) 21:53, 19 April 2007 (CDT)

Thanks you so much for doing that¸ Matt. So now would it be possible for one of the editors to send an e-mail to Gilad Atzmon¸ and ask him to submit anything he would like to say to the that address¸ right (czinternal-topic@citizendium.org)? I’m not too sure about the procedure. Could I ask you to explain the procedure to him¸ Matt? I will send you his e-mail address privately. Thanks! Edna Spennato 04:52, 21 April 2007 (CDT)

Thank you Matt and Larry. As it happens¸ GA has sent me a mail which I paraphrased on the article talk page¸ but if it is necessary to post it somewhere else in Citizendium¸ could I ask you to post it there too. He has asked for Citizendium editors to contact him directly at his e-mail address if further clarification is needed about his stand on these issues.

Thanks for your help and don’t worry about a delay in getting back to me. I am also only able to come here when I have a break from my work¸ which is pretty demanding.... :) ...thanks again. Edna Spennato 18:18, 19 April 2007 (CDT)
