Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. There's a *ton* of stuff to do here! It's very different from Wikipedia, you'll find, if you've done much stuff there. For one thing, we're *polite*! And since I'm one of the Kops, I make *sure* we stay that way, hehe. Take your time and feel your way in. I'm not very technically oriented, but I can generally help out with most questions. Did you ever investigate, or at least look into the mahu traditions in Polynesia? Very strong, particularly in Tahiti and Samoa, although somewhat smothered in Hawaii, I gather. Yes, I have reviewed O Au No Keia: Voices from Hawai'i's Mahu and Transgender Communities and a few other pieces by Sam Winter on the topic. In Hawaii, it has devolved in the way it has with the hijra in India, where we have been reduced to begging and sex work. Andrea James 23:48, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I'll have to look at Winter's stuff. Sad about Hawaii, but the missionary influence there was much stronger, I would say. I had a close friend from American Samoa for a couple of years and it's apparently very mainstream there with the fafafines.... Hayford Peirce 01:26, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

U of C

Andrea, I fixed the template of U of C for you. If you want to change anything in the template you go to the talk page (tab next to the main article tab in the CZ bar). Almost on top of the talk page you see:

"To update this checklist edit the metadata template."

This is a linkable statement, when you click it you enter an ordinary Wiki-style edit session of the template and you can change whatever you want. For instance, you can change the status that I put arbitrarily equal to 3 (stub). You may want to change it to 2 (article underway but not finished). Changed the Workgroup categories on the article

I put Visual Arts as the number one category and moved the other two down. You can edit the metadata page here at http://en.citizendium.org/wiki?title=Template:Andrea_James/Metadata&action=edit but right now there's not much to do except maybe change the categories....
