I'm a 50 year old engineer (male and caucasian, two facts which should be largely irrelevant to this context), working in medical electronics in the greater Los Angeles area. My career has been primarily in aerospace and medical electronics, with the focus on real-time/embedded design (firmware and hardware), RF, and networking. I was educated at Caltech and UC Berkeley, majoring in chemical engineering. I have ten US patents issued, plus a few more pending.

My side interests include history (particularly late antiquity through early modern, also pre-modern Japanese history), epistemology, metaethics, evolution/paleontology, religion (as an object of study, definitely not as a practice), symphonic/gothic/neoclassical metal, and various forms of consumable ethanol.
