Richard Ramón Bunbury was born in Havana, Cuba and grew up in Savannah, Georgia. He holds degrees from the New England Conservatory, Boston College and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.[1] Since 1979, he has been Organist and Director of Music at St. Theresa of Avila Parish in West Roxbury, MA, where he has developed a prominent liturgical music program.[2] As a conductor, Bunbury led the Harvard-Radcliffe summer chorus, the Keene (NH) Chamber Singers, as well as guest conducting numerous choral and instrumental ensembles. In 1997 was orchestral Conducting Fellow at the University of Hartford. From 2000 to 2004, he was conductor of the Choral Art Society and directed numerous works with chorus and orchestra, including the premiere of Germani's Requiem for September 11, for which he was also librettist and received critical acclaim. He has taught at Simmons College and Bunker Hill Community College, Boston University, and has been on the faculty of The Boston Conservatory, teaching Music History since 1998.[3] As a keyboardist, Bunbury has given organ recitals and workshops in the US, Europe and Israel, and was harpsichordist in Ensemble Tiramisu and Concerto Antico. An author, too, he has published a number of articles, including one that appears in the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. His book Sacred Christmas Music is forthcoming.
