Military doctrine: The fundamental principles of a military organization. [e]

John Warden III: A retired United States Air Force colonel, who, as a planner, developed many of the basic ideas for the air campaign in the 1991 Gulf War. In retirement, he writes, speaks, and consults on strategy. [e]
Corps: The highest-level military headquarters that has an operational art mission, as opposed to tactical and support/administrative role; normally commanded by a major general or lieutenant general [e]

Joint Chiefs of Staff: The staff committee of the most senior members of the U.S. military services, charged with policy advice, doctrinal development, and preparedness rather than operational control of forces [e]
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: The senior member of the uniformed services of the United States, statutory senior military adviser to the President and Secretary of Defense; currently Admiral Mike Mullen; policy developer and adviser not in the operational chain of command [e]
National Command Authority: The combination of the U.S. President and Secretary of Defense, or their successors, who have the sole authority to authorize the use of nuclear weapons, or issue orders to Unified Combatant Commands [e]
National Security Act of 1947: Core of legislation that restructured the U.S. military from its traditional structure of a separate Army and Navy, creating the United States Air Force, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the predecessor to the U.S. Department of Defense [e]
National Security Council: Both the senior foreign policy committee of principal officers of the executive branch of the United States of America, chaired by the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, and, by extension, the professional staff reporting to the Assistant [e]
Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs: Principal White House staff adviser on foreign policy and defense matters to the President of the United States, usually coordinating the major agencies; statutory member of the National Security Council and the chief of its staff; the incumbent is James L. United States Central Command: Unified Combatant Command responsible for U.S. operations in the Middle East and Southwest Asia, now under the command of General James Mattis [e]

United States Secretary of State: The senior cabinet officer of the United States, responsible for the conduct of diplomacy, currently Hillary Clinton [e]
United States Strategic Command: The U.S. unified headquarters for the missions of worldwide nuclear and conventional precision strike; command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance in support of strategic operations; global network operations of the Global Information Grid, information operations, ballistic missile defense, and reduction of Weapons of Mass Destruction threats [e]

Command, Control and Communications
Command and control: The combination of lawful authority over people and resources, coupled with the methods of directing their execution of missions and tasks directed at goals set by that authority [e]
Common operational picture: An electronically shared graphic of map of common interest, typically to military units, that can show more or less detail, and specialized information, on simple user command or even touch [e]
Force multiplier: Technology, operating doctrine, or combination of techniques that , "...when added to and employed by a combat force, significantly increases the combat potential of that force and thus enhances the probability of successful mission accomplishment." Joint Chiefs of Staff [e]
Fratricide: The killing of one's brother, but in a military context, the killing of one's own forces ("friendly fire"). [e]

Forward Area Air Defense: A U.S. military command and control system for managing air defense, which includes both artillery/air deconfliction and counter-rocket, artillery and mortar missions, near the main battle line, typically under brigade control [e]
Army Airspace Command and Control: A division level air defense artillery and army aviation information management system of the U.S. Army, deemphasized with the main level of control at the brigade level with a minimal air defense requirement [e]
Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System: A U.S. Army and Marine artillery fire control system that cooperates with Navy and Air Force fire control systems, as well as British, French, Italian and German artillery systems. [e]

AEGIS battle management system: An integrated system of computers, radars, and other systems that provides integrated management of a shipboard suite of strategic strike, anti-surface warfare, ballistic missile defense and anti-air warfare principally using missiles in vertical launch systems; it complements other integrated systems for anti-submarine warfare and naval gunfire support [e]
Cooperative Engagement Capability: A distributed computing and communications system principally aboard U.S. Navy warships, more than the AEGIS battle management system is often called.
