Personal

Born in Manizales, Caldas, Colombia on July 22, 1946. Left Colombia in 1952 with parents and was raised in several areas of the United States of America, including the states of Florida, New York, North Carolina and South Carolina. Separated with three sons, Billy, born in 1986, Alex, born in 1988 and Edward born in 1990.

Education

Graduate Certificate in Translation Studies, University of Florida, 2006 (Spanish into English). Graduated from New York University, School of Law, Graduate Division in 1977 (LL.M. [post-doctoral master of laws] - International Legal Studies). Graduated from St. John's University, School of Law in 1976 (J.D. [juris doctor]). Honors included Dean's List, Multiple American Jurisprudence Awards, graduated in the top 10% of combined law school classes. Graduated from the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina in 1968 (B.A. [bachelor of arts], Political Science). Graduated from Eastern Military Academy in Huntington, New York in 1964.

Current member of: American Translators Association (and numerous of its divisions); Eastern Military Academy Alumni Association (vice chairman of the board of directors); Libertarian Party (life member); Citadel Club of Central Florida (director, founder, president and past chairman); Association of Citadel Men (life member).

Universidad Autónoma de Manizales, Department of Political and Juridical Sciences, International Relations Office and Directorate of Human Welfare and Development: involved in teaching political science, English for academic purposes to faculty members, development and implementation of Spanish for foreigners programs, development and implementation of student and faculty exchange programs with United States universities, translation of academic articles published in Spanish for republication in English, and, organization of student and faculty groups for intensive English study courses in the United States. 2004 to present, managing member of Advanced Translations Group, LLC, a Florida limited liability company owned by the Southeast Companies, Inc., engaged in the business of providing Spanish to English translation and interpretation services on a free lance basis (clients included the University of Florida’s Latin American Studies Center). 1998 to present, freelance writer and poet.

1968-69, Consumer Relations Manager for the Burnhard Ullman Company. 1969-1977, Eastern Military Academy (professor, chairman social studies department, chairman foreign languages department, president international division). 1977, Issues research staff in the Mario Cuomo Mayoralty Campaign. 1977-1978, counsel to the Permanent Committee on Education of the New York State Assembly. 1984-1986, served as a presidential appointee to a local United States Selective Service Board. 1984-1989, served as the chairman of numerous arbitration panels for the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. 1977 to 1993, private practice of law in Florida and New York. 1995 to 2001; Managing member of several related Delaware limited liability companies engaged in providing consulting services through their principals and through a series of strategic alliances with independent consultants, in the following areas: international trade, marketing & sales; media relations; regulatory compliance, mergers, acquisitions divestitures and reorganizations; strategic planning; corporate structuring and re-structuring; merchant banking; investment banking; professional recruitment, supervision and training; executive personnel recruitment and training; investor relations and screening; product license acquisition; and, general business and financial matters. 1998 to 2003, served as a designated member of a family trust to several Florida companies each engaged in development stage angel investments in small public companies. 1997 to present, Director and Vice President of The Southeast Companies, Inc., (previously Southeast Marketing & Promotions, Inc.) a Florida corporation formerly engaged in entertainment production, talent management and, through the Liberty Group (an independent division), engaged in political consulting. 2007 to 2008, Universidad Autónoma de Manizales, professor, Instituto de Idiomas.
