Under the direction of the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Michele Sison, the United States Mission to Lebanon consists of the core diplomatic functions of the embassy, but also a variety of other U.S. government functions. It has been growing since 1997, when security conditions allowed the lifting of restrictions on American passports for travel to Lebanon

While not acknowledged, there is almost certainly a substantial Central Intelligence Agency station, and possibly representatives of other agencies of the United States intelligence Community

The Mission also cooperates with United Nations and other international organizations in Lebanon.
