U.S. Ambassador to Russia [r]: Considered one of the most challenging assignments, usually given to a career officer or a non-Foreign Service diplomat with long experience. The incumbent is John Beyrle, a Foreign Service Officer, took the post in 2008; he had served two earlier tours in the U.S. Embassy, including Deputy Chief of Mission
