Twelver Shi'ism is that branch of Shi'a Islam that believes the blood line of Muhammad and his son-in-law Ali was broken with the death of the twelfth Imam. The majority of Shi'a worldwide, an estimated 80%, are Twelvers. They make up 90% of the modern population of Iran and 55 to 60% of the population of Iraq, and the majority in Azerbaijan. They make up a large number of the Shi'a in Turkey, Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria, India, Afghanistan and Bahrain.
