I wonder whether Wodehouse was aware there's a Duke of Dunstable in Patience. Peter Jackson (talk) 11:47, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

I would be astonished if he were *not* aware of it -- his literary allusions, even in such comic words as the Blandings books, cover a wide, wide field. SOME of his character names come, apparently, from actual geographic names scattered about either the area where he grew up, went to school, or provided residences for his characters. Emsworth apparently is the name of a small coastal village not all that far from wherever the Castle is situated. And ditto for several other recurring characters. I can't find any direct reference to Dunstable and Wodehouse, but there IS an old town in Bedfordshire called Dunstable. Not all that far from London and/or Blandings. Whether Plum drew direct inspiration from the town or the play, I dunno.... Hayford Peirce (talk) 19:23, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
