I don't see the difficulty, frankly. Someone wants to write an article about X, and X isn't as important as, say, a million other topics; well, you might regret that the author isn't spending his energy on something more important, but why actually discourage someone from writing about X? Letting people work on the topics they want to work on is precisely what makes the wiki system work so well. It borrowed that from bottom-up or "bazaar"-style OSS development. One thing I like about Wikipedia is that you can look up just about any place name and get some relevant information. Some places have more notability than others. Some areas are more comprehensive than others. For example, places in the USA and the UK are covered right down to the hamlets and districts in cities; where as China has many cities of over 500,000 people that have no article at all.

As you say, we need these eventually, so why would we remove what we have already? Derek Harkness 01:31, 29 November 2006 (CST)
