Help bring in other cultural/legal systems

This brief introduction is from the context of current common law, especially as ADR exists in the United States. Before going much farther, I would very much like to see a discussion of dispute resolution in other legal systems, such as the civil law, or in cultures that tend to avoid adversarial proceedings.
