Robert Borosage is president of the Institute for America’s Future (founded 1999) and co-director of its sister organization, the Campaign for America’s Future (1996), which he established with Roger Hickey. Their founders created the groups to counter a rightward movement in U.S. politics. He also chairs the [1] In addition, he is an adjunct professor at the American University law school, and chairs the Progressive Majority's Political Action Committee. He is a Contributing Editor at The Nation magazine, and a regular contributor to The American Prospect magazine. The David Horowitz Freedom Center calls him a former New Left radical, who, in 1989 founded the Campaign for New Priorities, "which called for decreased federal spending on the military and greater allocations for social welfare programs." [2] He has coauthored, with Katrina Vanden Heuvel of The Nation, a book opposing the radical right.

Recent positions

In his blog, and reprinted by the United Steelworkers, he urged Barack Obama to take strong positions with China.[3]

Political campaigns

In 1988,he left the Institute to serve as senior issues advisor to the presidential campaign of the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and advised other progressive candidates, including Senators Carol Moseley-Braun, Barbara Boxer and Paul Wellstone.

Institute for Policy Studies

In 1979, he became Director of the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), a progressive-identified think tank.

Center for National Security Studies

In 1974, he founded the Center for National Security Studies. The Center focused on the tension between civil rights and the national security powers and prerogatives of the executive branch, investigating the United States intelligence community and calling for accountability. At the Center, he helped to write and edit two books, The CIA File and The Lawless State.

Education

A graduate of Yale Law School, with a graduate degree in International Affairs from George Washington University, he briefly practiced private law.
