Mullah Obaidullah Akhund was the Taliban Defense Minister before their overthrow in 2001, and became a senior figure in the Quetta shura. He was arrested by Pakistan [1] While he was reported to be in Pakistani detention in February 2008, there are several reports of his repeated detention and release, sometimes in prisoner exchanges. [2]
One reported exchange was for Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan Tariq Azizuddin, although Pakistan has denied that there were any exchanges made.[3]
