The National Football League (NFL) is the highest-level professional league in the sport of American football. It was founded in 1920 and is based in New York City. The NFL currently (2022) has 32 member franchises based in cities throughout the USA. They operate in two conferences, the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC), each of which is further subdivided into four divisions of four teams each. At the conclusion of the regular season, seven teams from each conference qualify for an NFL Play-offs|end-of-season playoff tournament, which culminates in the Super Bowl to determine the league champion.
