In biochemistry, cyclooxygenase 2 is an enzyme that is "an inducibly-expressed subtype of prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase. It plays an important role in many cellular processes and inflammation. It is the target of cox2 inhibitors."[1] Like cyclooxygenase 1 and lipoxygenase, its substrate is arachidonic acid.

Cyclooxygenase 2 is expressed by most colorectal cancers and is associated with reduced survival.[2]

Cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitors are medications that block the action of cyclooxygenase 2.
