Current requests

  • Wars of Vietnam: this is the part of two major articles in reorganizing the material now covered by Vietnam War. Eventually, Vietnam War will be a major subarticle (with many subarticles of its own) dealing with the Western concept of the main war between 1962 and 1975. It would be good to get feedback on the broader-context article first; its talk page has graphics of the scope of both articles. Howard C. Berkowitz 14:10, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Ho Chi Minh: waiting for additional references, but I think it's in fairly good shape. The chief challenge is lower-case e editorial, discussed on the talk page: how best to deal with the many personal and organizational names. For example, while we commonly speak of Ho Chi Minh, he only started using that name in 1942. Does one use the name he used at a given time, or call him Ho? Further, Vietnamese names sometimes do, and sometimes don't, have the equivalent of surnames and personal names. His name at birth was not obviously related to that of his father; it changed again for traditional reasons at age 11 to something that translates to "he who will succeed", and, while he had many aliases, the name by which he may have gone longest was "Nguyen Ai Quoc", meaning "Nguyen the Patriot."   • Vietnamese Communist grand strategy: significant Vietnamese cooperation in historical conferences and interviews, as well as relatively recent U.S. declassifications, explain quite a few things that were poorly understood. Of course, there are a range of U.S. behaviors the Communists did not understand. The one strategic move where I feel that I'm pointing out possibilities, but am speculating a bit, is what they intended to achieve with the 1965-1966 winter campaign including the Battle of the Ia Drang and Battle of Bong Son. While some suggest their ideal outcome would have been to break through to the South China Sea, I see no evidence supporting they were in any position to exploit such a success. Do note related and more detailed article about dau tranh and General Offensive-General Uprising; should either of these move into the first article? Howard C. Berkowitz 00:35, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Domain Name System and subordinate articles: I think the main article is ready for approval, especially when considered as the introduction to a series of more detailed articles. Topic suggestions? Level of detail? Howard C. Berkowitz 00:35, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Radar: an overview that probably needs to focus on a core, and spin out more detailed technology articles. I have some notes on an article on antenna but haven't started anything. Do see AN- for an index of military equipment including radars; follow many cross-links.
  • I think NMR active elements is perhaps ready for approval. Keep in mind that this is a page meant to list the atomic nuclei useful for NMR and MRI experiments, and it is not aimed at explaining the full gruesome quantum details of NMR, which is something I will work on in the near future. Input on List of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance experiments would also be appreciated, especially if someone wants to help dig up solid state references. Since there are many dozens of references on the second page mentioned, I don't really think anyone is going to want to check each of these out.
  • Currently working on expanding Ulster Unionism some. Do I need to have the period of Unionist control of Northern Ireland mentioned in the style it is now or would that belong in a history of Northern Ireland article? Denis Cavanagh 15:00, 30 August 2007 (CDT)

  • Artificial intelligence - I see that this article has three categories listed (Computers, Robotics and Philosophy). The first two are obviously appropriate, and the this seems sensible, too, but I'm not a philosophy editor. Could we have a philsophy editor weigh in on whether philosophy should be included? Also, I'd appreciate it greatly if someone else would put links around whatever he/she thinks is proper - I'm so shell-shocked by the over-use of links at Wikipedia that I hardly know what to do. I *really* know nothing about this. I've read the first couple of paragraphs and I don't know whether this is a game that is played on a computer, a game station, on a table top (with cards and dice, say), or in "real life", with the various players maybe dressing up and moving about the house (or wherever it takes place).
